Telecoms: Commission asks The Netherlands to ensure independence of Dutch regulator

The European Commission is taking action to ensure the Dutch telecoms regulator, ACM, retains full independence in the application of EU telecoms rules to television broadcasting transmission. The 2009 EU Regulatory Framework for telecoms requires that national regulators have full independence in how they apply market regulation.

Europe's best digital entrepreneurs are under the spotlight tonight with the presentation of the "Europioneer awards" in Amsterdam. Alexander Ljung & Eric Wahlforss of SoundCloud are European Entrepreneurs of the Year while Jon Reynolds of SwiftKey is Young European Entrepreneur of the Year (under 30 years). The European Commission sponsors the awards as part of Startup Europe, the Commission's six-part plan to accelerate, connect and celebrate local entrepreneurship ecosystems in Europe, so that tech start-ups not only start in Europe, but stay in Europe.

Get Online Week 2013 helps thousands of Europeans to overcome the e-skills gap

Between 18 and 24 March 2013 the Europe-wide Get Online Week campaign, organized in 26 countries by Telecentre-Europe highlighted the essential role ICT skills play in today’s society and focused on encouraging young people to take up a career in ICT. Get Online Week campaign partners joined efforts with ICT companies and public authorities and organized a range of activities in both the urban and rural areas of their countries to empower people to use technologies for better jobs and better lives. The Get Online Week campaign was supported by the Get Online Week Alliance - formed by Accenture, Liberty Global and Microsoft.

Interested parties, such as representatives of network operators, service providers, users, consumers, manufacturers, trade unions, third countries and international organisations, are invited at 18:00 for a short debriefing session following the Communications Committee (COCOM) meeting on Tuesday 7 May 2013. The debriefing is intended to give a general overview of the discussions in the Committee. In order to attend the debriefing, the interested parties are requested to register with the secretariat of the Committee at the latest by Tuesday 30 April 2013, using the enclosed registration form.
