The first version of the BioMOBIUS platform [1] was released by the by the TRIL [2] research centre (Technology Research for Independent Living) in 2008. The BioMOBIUS platform is intended to be an open, easy to use platform that allows reseachers to quickly and easily develop biomedical prototype applications.. It is based on the EyesWeb XMI software platform (www.eyesweb.org), an open software platform developed by InfoMus Lab at the University of Genoa for research on multimodal interfaces, non-verbal expressive gesture and movement analysis and recognition, and it is applied in a number of research environments and applications, including music, performing arts, cultural and edutainment applications. BioMOBIUS is intended to be an all encompassing solution from the sensor device right up the stack to the data analysis and report presentation. The key idea is to free up key personnel to spend their time on the analysis of the data and on the testing and fine tuning of prototypes rather than on low level code development and issues of sensor programming, which in reality are only enablers to the overall goal. The BioMOBIUS platform is designed to be used with the SHIMMER [3] wireless sensor platform, which was developed originally by Intel. These devices are targeted for wearable and mobile applications and support both kinematic and physiological measurements.
