Kent Telehealth Evaluative Development Pilot
From Capsil Wiki
- Objectives - To demonstrate the efficacy of telemedicine in treating patients with underlying conditions (and comorbidities) such as heart failure, diabetes and COPD.
- Details - 250 patients were supplied with the Viterion V500 product suite that includes blood pressure monitor, glucose, peak flow, weight, temperature and pulse oxygen monitors. The trial period was 6 months and was concluded in late 2007.
- Results - The follwing results were reported:
- Reduced GP consultations by 40%
- 22 changes to medications were performed as a result of Telehealth data
- 85% reduction in Bed days in the proceding 3 months
- 870 Emergency Room bed days prior to Telehealthcare dropped to 85 days post Telehealthcare
- Cost savings of £150,000
- General Feedback: Users indicated less anxiety around their condition and thus interacted less with services but when they did access services it was more appropriate. As a result the number of bed days for the group decreased, emergency admissions decreased and where individuals died, it's was at home rather than hospital which is better for the individual, better for their carers and better for services.
