Netcarity Project

- Objectives - The Netcarity project started in Feb 2007 and will run for 4 years. According to their website, the Netcarity project has three main objectives, namely
- Social Objectives - These relate to the use of technologies to increase the quality of life of older people by reducing isolation, increasing activity and bringing better medical services to the home.
- Technology Objectives - These goals include the promotion of open standards, user-centred design of solutions taking into account many factors including psychological and ethnographic, and the researching and integration of new technologies that can be useful to the home environment.
- Economic and Political Objectives - Open up the markets for companies to commercialise 'assistive living in the home' type solutions. Develop sustainable business models and create technology and services that can be 'sold'. Also to provide data and consultancy as appropriate to policy making forums.
- Details - The Netcarity project has stated it will perform the following, however as yet no detail on individual devices or early results are available;
- Development of new interface modalities suitable for the elderly.
- Development of smart sensor technologies for fall and fire detection.
- Improve knowledge and understanding of ambient intelligence technologies for assisted living environments.
- Integrate traditionally fragmented technologies into a single system.
- Trials - They plan to pilot the solution in 20, 40 and 100 homes over years 2, 3 and 4 respectively.
