Software and Interfaces
From Capsil Wiki
This chapter presents the Software and Interfaces component of the CAPSIL roadmap with a focus on; software architecture design considerations, software development environment considerations, the capturing, handling and storage of large data sets, data visualisation aspects and issues of interoperability and standards.
A market analysis and an overview of some key concepts including the smart home are presented. Various architectural approaches are considered and issues such as Services Oriented Architectures (SOA) and Cloud Computing are introduced as paradigms that may be very useful to the independent living application arena. Development environments are considered and the differences between low-level and high-level approaches are discussed. Recently a trend toward more user-friendly and non-syntactical type environments, which allow for example clinical personnel to easily set up prototype systems and quickly start collecting data, is emerging.
An example of such as approach is the BioMOBIUS environment, which is presented in section 3. Section 4 outlines areas requiring further work including software interoperability standards (currently no useful ones exist), mobile presentation and application layer R&D and further progress on privacy and security standards, particularly at the higher levels within the software stack.
